    Outpatient Services

    Adult Outpatient services provide a broad range of expert care that includes, undertaking comprehensive assessments for substances use and mental health, offering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and overseeing Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT). Our programs offers both Intensive Outpatient Services (IOP) and less intensive outpatient services and can vary between short and long-term length of stay.

    The Office Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) program is intended for adults with Opioid Use Disorder who need a maintenance program to aid them in abstaining from opioid use, while building a support system and program of recovery. The program utilizes Suboxone (Buprenorphine) medication combined with group and individual therapy. Maryhaven outpatient program services and length of stay are determined through a mutual collaboration with our clients and providers.

    In addition to substance use services, we also offer mental health outpatient services that consist of Assessment, Mental Health Counseling for Individuals, Crisis Intervention, and Referral to onsite Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Treatment is primarily focused on interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, anxiety management, skills to manage depression, unresolved grief, childhood traumas, chronic pain, spiritual confusion, and vocational exploration.

    Treatment is designed for adults presenting with acute or chronic mood disturbance and/or other mental health symptoms.

    Clients who come to 1430 South High St. in Columbus between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday-Friday, will be screened, admitted and scheduled for an assessment.

    Medically Assisted Treatment
    For adults struggling to be free of opioids or alcohol, medication can reduce or eliminate cravings that lead to relapse. Maryhaven emphasizes a motivational therapeutic approach combined with daily medication services for Buprenorphine (Suboxone) or Methadone or a once-monthly injection of Vivitrol. Our comprehensive care starts with medical and clinical assessments, ongoing appointments with nurses and medical providers, medication management, and individual or group counseling.

    Methadone, known as an opioid “agonist,” is combined with counseling to treat opioid use disorder. It works to reduce cravings and manage withdrawal symptoms while also diminishing or blocking the “high” normally resulting from opiate use. This medication is taken daily and can be started even before detoxification from opioids.

    Suboxone is partial-opioid agonist made of Buprenorphine and Naloxone and is combined with counseling to treat opioid use disorder. It can reduce cravings, minimize withdrawal symptoms and diminish or block the “high” normally resulting from opiate use. This medication is taken daily but patients can start it only if in active withdrawal or after completing opioid detoxification.

    A once monthly injection used in combination with counseling, Vivitrol can treat opioid or alcohol use disorders. It uses an extended-release form of Naltrexone to reduce cravings and block the normal “high” and sedative effects of opiates or alcohol. Vivitrol is non-habit forming and will not cause withdrawal symptoms when discontinued; however, patients cannot not drink alcohol for at least 48 hours before injection or use an opioid 1-2 weeks before injection.

    Eligible Maryhaven patients will receive Vivitrol every 28-35 days, as long as their urine screen is negative for opiates and other opioid treatment medications. Patient care also includes weekly individual and group counseling sessions guided by evidence-based interventions. Counseling requirements may be reduced as patients progress.
