Meet Dr. Beth West, Maryhaven’s Chief Clinical Officer

Maryhaven clients gained a champion when Dr. Beth West assumed the role of Chief Clinical Officer on September 5, 2023. Dr. West loves to put her 23 plus years of behavioral health expertise to work “fighting for the underdog, making sure every client’s humanity is seen, embraced, and valued, and that people have access to the highest quality care,” she says.

It is a passion and mission that has driven her throughout her career, including at her most recent post as Chief Operating Officer for Health Partners of Western Ohio, a Lima, Ohio-based Federally Qualified Health Center. Beginning as a behavioral health practitioner at Health Partners in 2008, she advanced to the COO position in 2013.

While driven by her passion to serve underserved communities, Dr. West also strives to ensure that Maryhaven attracts, prepares, and retains the best, brightest and most committed staff. She notes that it’s important to find people who “both get our why and can show real compassion to clients who are often struggling with tremendous health and mental health challenges.”

She sees competitive wages, training, and the cultivation of a highly collaborative, high-performance culture as key: “It’s a lot to ask someone to be 100 percent all the time, every day. If we are truly dedicated to social justice, we have a responsibility to our employees to respond to their needs and concerns as well.”

These objectives were instrumental in her prior role where, among other outcomes, she elevated organizational performance for more than 350 staff by developing a successful leadership team, strengthened by weekly one-on-one mentoring and training, monthly group coaching meetings, on-the-job modeling, observation, and feedback.

She earned her doctorate in behavioral health from Arizona State University and a master’s in social work from The Ohio State University. She continues to mentor doctoral students as an Associate Faculty for Arizona State University’s Doctoral of Behavioral Health program.

Serving more than 300,000 men, women and adolescents since 1953, Maryhaven is Central Ohio’s largest and most comprehensive behavioral health services provider specializing in addiction recovery.
