Persons with addictive illness often also suffer from distinct mental health or psychiatric disorders. These conditions — such as depression, anxiety or panic disorders, post-traumatic stress, attention-deficit/hyperactivity — combined with the person’s abuse of alcohol and drugs, often severely disrupt mood, behavior, and relationships.

Treatment works best when both the addictive illness and mental health disorder are simultaneously addressed. This is why Maryhaven’s professionals includes a fully licensed team of 8 psychiatrists (adult and adolescent specialists), 12 physician addiction specialists, 5 nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, and counselors.

Maryhaven’s team is led by Medical Director Sara McIntosh MD, board certified in psychiatry, neurology, and addiction medicine and Director of Research Paul Schkolnik PhD, board certified in psychology.

Mental Health Services include:

• Diagnostic assessment and treatment planning
• Pharmacologic management (medications)
• Individual, group, and family counseling

As patients complete their alcohol and drug treatment, we link them to mental health professionals in the community for them to continue their treatment.
